What Makes This Different?

  • Portraits are about collaboration. A two-way street.

You have a feeling of how you want to be seen, but you can’t see yourself from outside. Yet, you are the only one who knows what makes you who you are. My job is to give you the space to find out how to express that to others, making you feel comfortable, allowing you to discover the deepest way to present yourself to the outside world.

We can get a bit of this out of a quick shoot, but it’s even better if it starts with a deeper conversation: sharing examples of images you like, understanding what inspires you.

My approach focuses on creativity and discovery. I can shoot a picture of you that makes you look professional, but the truth is that everyone can have one of these: a professional portrait has become a baseline, not something that makes you stand out.

Everyone can fill a template of what a good picture is, and because of that, there is much less value in that than there used to be.

To go beyond, you need creativity and imagination; paradoxically, in order to find who you are, you need to be able to find a way of looking that would not fit for anyone else.

Thanks to my 20+ years of experience as a filmmaker and journalist, we can also go beyond just an image: we can make a short documentary about who you are, and what you offer to the world. You can see some examples of that approach here.

We’ll choose whether to shoot in a fully equipped photo studio right next to Letna Park in Prague, or to go to one or more locations to find the best places to complement what you want to share about you.

  • The process of making what I call soul photographs (made with a focus on being present and honest, by the photographer and the subject) goes beyond medium: it’s about the approach and the intention more than the tools, so the default session will use very high-quality digital cameras.

The analogue process that can make this even more of an adventure. A film roll has a limited number of pictures in it. Medium format film, especially, only has 12; each one can be an inspiration for something special. You can find space in limitations.

There is something about the size of the medium format negative that is still very hard for any digital camera to reproduce. It’s like capturing a frame in an IMAX film.

Printing them and putting them in custom folders, something you can touch, store, carry with you, will allow you to have a keepsake that you can come back to and remember what you discovered about a specific time in your life.

Time will pass; thousands of digital pictures that you collect every year blend into each other in your devices and in the cloud.

Decades later, you will be able to share others who you were on the path of who you are.
