Siri Grows a Conscience is a short movie shot in a couple of winter days with Cédric Larvoire as the cinematographer and Madelyn Marcella in the lead; it's a comedy that tries to make sense of the weird relationship between us, our devices, and the world that makes them possibile. And a great showcase of Siri's acting abilities.
My latest music video is available online; shot for Personal Signet, a Czech based progressive metal band, it was written, directed and edited by me, shot by Cédric Larvoire, with post help by Atchung 2K, and production from Brainzone and Alfedus.
The launch of the video has been featured on Czech National media, a first for us, especially surreal given the Spice Girls connection for a pretty dark video. The article is here.
My short movie ATM is up on Snagfilm after its festival run in the LA Comedy Festival and the Google+ Unofficial Film Festival.
It's the result of watching a lot of viral videos and listening to a lot of Kevin Smith podcast, and for some odd coincidence shares two of its main actors with Snowpiercer. Life is odd.
Many thanks to everyone who worked on it; it was a passion project, done with almost no budget, and a lot of love.
Born of Stone is a short documentary about Pinuccio Sciola, possibly the most important living sculptor in my native Sardinia, especially famous for his sound stones. in a bit less than a week this february I've spent time with the artist and, with the help of Cédric Larvoire on camera and Tomas Patlich and Jindrich Kravarik recording sounds, we recorded interviews, vistas and sounds; the documentary will cover Sciola's life and works.
The soundtrack of the short will be completely composed using samples recorded from Sciola's sound stones: this trailer is just a small taste of the documentary, coming soon (possibly this summer). We are aiming to hitting some festivals before sharing the work online; more info will be coming here and in my new Facebook page.
I stumbled upon a new service called Exposure, made by a small startup behind some cool iPhone app. The idea behind the website is to allow for an easy way to build visual narratives alternating pictures and text in an easy and very sleek way.
I made my first post on the website to tell a small story about my observations on Christmas in Prague and Sardinia. I'm looking to do more work like this, also experimenting with other services like Medium.
You can find the post here:
Shot in early june, in Berlin, this is guerrilla filmmaking turned into music video. The idea wasn't necessarely to turn this into a short/music video hybrid, but during a weekend of shooting and brainstorming with Polina and the always amazing camera wizard Cédric we came out with a small story about walking, lamps, and guitar riffs. Check it out here, and hear more of Pollytikk's music at http://pollytikk.com
Over the summer I worked at a new video with the amazing people from the Fire Dance Fireshow company, a group of very talented fire dancers based in Prague. I filmed some of their rehearsal sessions in some of the most striking parks in Prague, and went on to edit the whole thing to one of my favourite tracks released this year: Little Furnace - Mitsuo Suzuki Post Production Mix from the album The Scythian Steppes: Seven #Sworcery Songs Localized for Japan by the amazing Jim Guthrie
Thanks to everyone involved for lending their time and talent, this was a lot of fun to shoot and edit together.
A new set is up on my Flickr feed; this summer I have shot some behind the scene footage in the set of the music video "Dream a Dream" from the Czech band Portless.
The set is here; you can also check the video (directed by Jesse Baldwin and shot by Cédric Larvoire) on YouTube.
Anyone who has visited the website in the past week or so will notice a radical change in the structure of this website: it has been redesigned from the ground up, putting videos and pictures front and center.
My previous website was a showcase for all my interests and professional output, including writing and music. Lately I invested in my own professional photo and video equipment, to shift focus from my writing to focus more on visual work. The last few months have given me several opportunity to work with some great people for video and photo projects, and I am gearing up for more and better jobs.
My work as a journalist and writer is not going to stop anytime soon: you can find many articles and opinions around the web (mostly in italian). But this website is about images, sounds and motion. Hope you'll enjoy it.
Many thanks to Polina S. Tikk for helping with the design of the website; also to Ashe Kazanjian, author of the picture in the about page, and Laetitia Desroches, who designed my logo and my visual identity.
